"It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of former JROTC Cadet Strunk, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in St. Petersburg on the evening of June 2, 2026, at the age of 22.
Cadet Strunk was one of my cadets during his high school years. He was a true go-getter with a "can-do" attitude and a personality full of joy. He approached every challenge with enthusiasm and determination.
One of my favorite memories of him was after attending the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge
(JCLC) summer camp, where he earned four certificates from different training areas. His immediate question afterward was, "CSM, can I go back to JCLC next summer?" That eagerness to learn, grow, and participate defined who he was.
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr. Seuss
While the pain of losing him is profound, I hope we can all find comfort in the memories he gave us, the laughter he shared, and the positive impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His spirit, kindness, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow cadets, and instructors.
On behalf of our HOLLINS JROTC family, we extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Rest easy, Cadet Strunk. You will always be a part of our JROTC family, and your memory will never be forgotten"
