William Wolf (Bill) age 90, died peacefully in his home at Westminster, Winter Park on November 6, 2021. He was born on February 3, 1931 in Railroad, PA.
Bill was preceded in death in 2015 by his wife of 61 years, Frances. He is survived by his two daughters, Julie Wolf (Greg Sahlsten) of Orlando and Gonja Wolf of San Diego, and two grandchildren, Sonja Wolf Sahlsten (Washington, DC) and Steven Wolf Sahlsten (Orlando).
Bill grew up in Pennsylvania, the oldest of 5 children who have all predeceased him. In 1954, he graduated from Florida Southern College and married Frances, who was a freshman in college in Lakeland, who he had met at a school dance.
The young couple returned to Bill's hometown in Pennsylvania, and he became a school teacher and postman. He was drafted by the US Army in 1956 and was stationed in Germany, with Frances, where he worked in the Army Education Center.
Julie was born in 1957 and Gonja in 1959. In 1962, the family moved to Hollywood, FL, and Bill began a 20-year career with Broward County Public Schools, progressing from a high school math teacher to director of mathematics and then school principal. Fran returned to college once Julie and Gonja were in school and became an elementary school teacher.
After becoming empty nesters, in 1982, Bill and Fran sought adventure and joined the Department of Defense where they taught at military bases overseas including in Germany, Japan, and Korea. They were able to travel the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica. The globetrotters retired in 1993 and moved to Sanford, FL. They also enjoyed spending time with family at their beachfront condo in New Smyrna Beach. After Fran's death, Bill adopted a rescue poodle, Taffy, and moved to independent living at Westminster, Winter Park where he remained active and made many new friends.
Funeral service will be on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 338 E. Lyman Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789, with a reception to follow at the church.
