William "Harley Vann," age 85, died peacefully at Hospice of the Comforter on Tuesday, December 23rd after a lengthy and hard fought illness. Harley is now in the arms of his Savior, Christ Jesus.
Harley is survived by his wife, Betty (Watson) Vann and his brother, Thomas (Bernice) W. Vann, Sr. and his sisters, Imogene Holub and Clara Wansley of Tampa, Florida. He was born in Durant, Florida to the late Charlie B Vann, Sr. and Verdie Thomas Vann. He was also preceded in Death by his brothers Lawrence, Deward, and Charlie and his sisters Eunita Cashmore, and F. Estelle Pace.
Harley earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from the University of Florida, and was a veteran of Korean conflict. After then being discharged from the Army, Harley worked as an engineer at Martin Marietta, and then founded his own heating and air conditioning company where he worked until he retired in 1996.
After retirement, Harley turned his attention to his passion for travel. Pulling a camper behind their Ford Explorer, Harley and Betty took a road trip across the United States, through Canada and spent a summer in Alaska. Eventually, they visited all fifty of our United States at least once, and never missed an opportunity to take the camper out for a weekend camping trip alone or with good friends.
Harley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Lake Mary, Florida; and up until his health would not permit, one of his favorite church activities was meeting every Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. to pray with his Christian brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on January 3, 2015 @ 11:00 a.m., located at 499 North Country Club Road, Lake Mary, Florida with Pastor Ric Jones presiding.
