William (Willie) Harlan Pegram, 76 of Sanford, FL passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022. Beloved husband of Carole Moreton Pegram, wife of 53 years; proud father to Heather Price (Billy), Gregory (Tamar), and Sarah; and even prouder grandfather to Elizabeth and Cooper (Heather) and Emerson and Grayson (Greg).
Born July 28, 1945 in Winston Salem, NC, he was preceded in death by his parents Hubert Sr. and Kathleen Pegram and brother Hubert Jr. He is survived by brothers Kenneth (Jane) and Gary (Susan); brother-in-law Ross Moreton (Diane); sisters-in-law Teen Pegram and Darlene Moreton; and seven nieces and nephews.
Willie attended Wofford College on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1968. He served as Team Captain and received MVP honors his senior year, resulting in being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. Willie and Carole married in Kitzingen, Germany while he was serving the U.S. Army. After returning stateside, he began working for Church's Fried Chicken and in 1980 became a franchisee in Sanford, FL. Willie enjoyed serving his community, and his goal was to always serve the "best chicken in Sanford."
Willie was always quick with a joke, a helpful hand, or an offer to be of service. He enjoyed vigorously supporting his children's sporting events and keeping tabs on his stock portfolio. Willie was an avid bridge player, golfer, and tennis player.
A Memorial Service for Willie will be held at First United Methodist Church of Sanford, 419 South Park Avenue, Sanford, FL 32771 on Saturday, July 23 at 10:30am.
