William “Hutch” Hutcheon of Maitland, Florida, passed away unexpectedly at home on
June 17, 2026. He was born on March 5, 1954, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Robert G.and Lisbeth L. Hutcheon.

Hutch attended Forest Hills High School in West Palm Beach, then went on to Wofford College, where he played football, and later to Florida State University—Go Noles! While at Wofford, he met his lifelong friend Val Sawyer. Val’s family adopted Hutch as one of their own, and he treasured his time with the entire Sawyer clan.

In 1991, Hutch met Aida Mesa, who was charmed by his smile and sparkling blue eyes.Together they shared 33 1⁄2 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, friends, and travel to the Islands and Abroad. Hutch loved boating and believed island time meant no watches—just kicking back, relaxing, listening to Buffett tunes, playing LCR, snorkeling,and dancing.

Hutch spent more than 40 years building a career in micro-drip irrigation. A consummate professional in the landscape, greenhouse, and irrigation industries, he made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Mention his name, and people smile—remembering the stories, the jokes, the singing fish in his office (“Take Me to the River”),and the often-recycled “Joke of the Day.” Hutch never wanted work to feel like work.

He was one of the most positive people you could ever meet, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was always quick with a smile, a joke, and words of encouragement.There wasn’t a mean bone in his body, and he had a gift for making everything more fun.When there was something to celebrate—which was often—he ordered his “Lite by Miller,”a brand he probably should have been paid to endorse. He looked after his friends, noticed when they were hurting, and made people feel cared for.

Hutch made his home in the Orlando area for 33 years. After retiring in 2020, he enjoyed spending time in the Keys and on his boat with Aida, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Lisbeth, and his nephew, Chad.

He is survived by his wife, Aida Mesa Hutcheon; his dog, Maddie; his brothers, Jeff and Frank; his sister, Lyle; his nephew, Chase; his niece, Caitlin; and his godson, Mac Sawyer.

Today, we are sad, but we are also deeply grateful to have had Hutch in our lives.

Everyone who remembers Hutch is invited to celebrate his life in their own way. Raising a glass of a favorite drink in his memory would be especially fitting.

As Hutch often said, “Don’t get one, get two.”
