Witmer, Wayne L., 70, died Friday, July 31, 2015 at his home in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was born August 26, 1944 in Marion, IN to Marion E. Witmer and Bernice Klopfenstein Witmer. Mr. Witmer graduated from University High School, Bloomington, IN in 1962. He received his bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University in 1966. While at IU, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, a varsity letter-winner for the men's baseball team and the recipient of the 1966 Big Ten Medal for athletic and scholastic achievement. Mr. Witmer served in the United States Army for three years, attending Officer Candidate School at Fort Knox, KY and received his officer commission in July 1967. He served two years active duty as a commissioned officer at Ft. Bragg, NC and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in August 1969. Following the military, Mr. Witmer attended Law School at Indiana University receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree cum laude in 1972. He practiced law with Barrett & McNagny LLP prior to joining Medical Protective Company in 1989, from which he retired in 2010. Mr. Witmer was active in the Sertoma Club of Ft. Wayne and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana. Mr. Witmer is survived by his wife, Margaret Witmer of Altamonte Springs, FL; Daughter Amy Haberly and husband Andrew of Waterloo, IN; son Timothy Witmer, of Chicago, IL; step son Kris Egbert of Cocoa Beach, FL; step daughter Kim Young of Kearney, MO; granchildren Nicholas, Elizabeth and Jacob Haberly of Waterloo, IN; sister Jean Landis of Marion, IN; sister Jan Fox of San Jose, CA; a niece and three nephews. A Memorial Service is pending in Indiana.
