Obituary

Walter J Sciamonte, 81, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024 with his devoted wife Valerie by his side. He was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, the son of Philip and Diana (Antici) Sciamonte. He had one sibling, his brother Philip (deceased).

He was a proud member of the University of Manitoba Class of 1968 graduating with a degree in Mathematics. Following graduation he joined Soctiabank's International Management Program after which he enjoyed working and living throughout the Caribbean for a number of years. True to his adventurous nature and eagerness for lifelong learning he obtained his pilot's license and became a scuba instructor and was featured in a prominent diving magazine. In line with his desire to maintain a healthy life he enjoyed many years engaging in Kung Fu and Tai Chi. Later in life he was legally certified by the US Coast Guard as an Able Bodied Seaman and worked for several years on the popular Sun Cruz Casino boat out of Cape Canaveral. He is fondly remembered by his elite high school rowing team which garnered multiple gold medals in that sport. He was a Shriner, having attained the level of 32nd Degree Mason.

Walt was highly disciplined and an avid reader. A friendly and an engaging man Walt made friends easily, believing "You are only a stranger once". This quality of Walt's served him well in his role as a USO volunteer in service to our military.

Walter met his wife Valerie, a fellow Canadian from Quebec City, in Miami in the early seventies. Inveterate travelers Walter and Valerie enjoyed many extended trips to Europe, China, South Africa, Australia, Cyprus to name a few.

He is survived by his loving wife Valerie, along with a niece and nephew and multiple cousins.

A service will be held on August 24, 2024 at 9:30 am in the Chapel at San Pedro Spiritual Center on Bishop Grady Lane, Winter Park, Florida.
