Vlasta Adamiak

Saint Petersburg, FL resident Vlasta Adamiak, 66, died Saturday Feburary 5, 2011 with her family and loved ones by her side. She was born on September 8, 1944 in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia to parents Joseph and Anna and grew up in the town of Krompachy with her older brother Joseph and older sister Bozena, who still resides there today. Vlasta attended school up to high school in Krompachy and met her husband Gejza there. They were married Easter 1964. Vlasta gave birth to two sons, Stanley in 1965 and then Mark in 1976. In 1985 Vlasta, Gejza and her two sons made the decision to move to the United States where they have resided since then. Vlasta started working at Wendy's on 4th street and 90th avenue north where she for many years tended to the salad bar. Later, she changed jobs and worked at Saint Petersburg General Hospital where she started off as a cleaning lady. As her English improved she passed her exam to become a certified nurse assistant and took great pride in her care of infants in the labor and delivery ward. She met many wonderful friends there and created lifelong memories. Her kind heart and caring personality made her loved by not only the people she worked with but the patients she helped and cared for. Her vibrant smile, her positive attitude and her love for her family and friends will truly be missed. She was also an extraordinary cook and every year around Christmas time she made hand made Christmas cookies that made the holidays that much more special and joyful. A friend, a mother, a wife, a survivor, a fighter-for she fought and struggled most of her life, but always had a smile and a laugh. Her life was not easy, growing up in post World War II Eastern Europe and then being occupied by the Russians. She then had to learn a new language and customs of the west after arriving in the US. She loved to travel, cook, and enjoyed the uncomplicated things in life. Her strong work ethic is evident as she progressed and excelled in every job that she held. Her spirit and warmth will truly be missed. She is survived by husband of 47 years, Gejza; sons Stanley and Mark; grandsons Oliver and Dominik and daughter - in -laws Ivana and Brittany. Donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 10am at the Ukranian Catholic Church off of 90th Avenue North in St. Petersburg.
