Vinita K. Register, 97 of St Petersburg, FL passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband, Barney W. Register; her son, Barney W Register, Jr; and her daughter Linda R. O'Dell. Survivors include her granddaughter Kristina O. Miller, her husband Chris Miller and two great-grandchildren.
Vinita was a strong, caring woman who always spoke her mind. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Especially the love of her life, her husband Barney. Shortly after they were married, Barney was paralized in WWII. Without hesitation, Vinita took on the role of being his dedicated nurse and often said 'I can walk for both of us', and she did.
The two of them built their family home together, adopted two beautiful children and ran their own accounting firm. They spent summers as a family traveling the US in their Airstream and visited almost every state. Their hearts eventually settled on some vacation property in the mountains of North Carolina where they built a little cabin which became their peaceful retreat.
Their love of traveling even took them on a family trip to Hawaii for their 45th wedding anniversary. A place Barney had wanted to visut eversince he survived the Pearl Harbor attack.
After Barney passed in 1992, Vinita was not one to sit still for long. She volunteered countless hours at Transfiguration School in the library where she created numerous scenes and costumes for the many theatrical productions the children put on. Many of these works of art are still in use today.
During her final days, Vinita's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Vinita's memory will live on in our hearts and she will be missed by many.
The family is accepting visitors on Sunday at 6:30pm at R Lee Williams Funeral home, a service will follow at 7:30pm. A small graveside service will also take place on Monday at 11:30 am at the Florida National Cemetery.
