Thomas A. Norby, age 78, passed on to glory on Monday October 4th, 2021. A celebration of his life will be held at Osteen United Methodist Church at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday October 10th.
Tom was born in Akron Ohio where he became a competitive swimmer in high school. Shortly after high school, in 1962 he started a 21-year career in the United States Navy. During that time, he met Travis and her three teenage children, which did not scare off the "Chief" and he had been married to Travis going on 42 years. After leaving the Navy, he became a postal carrier in Maine for 17 years, but later retired to Osteen Florida where he served as a Sunday School "facilitator" for over 16 years at Osteen United Methodist Church.
Tom was a gentle giant of a man who would frequently send cards and letters of encouragement, appreciation, and comfort to those he cared for. He also loved to read and would often share some of his favorite books with friends, family, and even the occasional stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family including his wife Travis, his sister Mercedes Norby, his "kids" Wade (Dana B.), LeAnn (Dave), and Dana, his three grandsons Terrell (Melanie), Chad (Jules), Devin (Angie) and his 9 great-grandchildren.
