Obituary

Terrence (Terry) Howard McDaniel, 78 of Orlando, Florida passed away July 16, 2018. Terry was born to the late Raymond N. McDaniel and Golda M. Loomis on May 11, 1940 in Montpelier, Ohio. His family later moved to Sylvania, Ohio. As a teenager, Terry played high school football and worked with his father at R.N. McDaniel and Sons, Painting Contractor. Terry graduated from Burnham High School in 1959 and later that fall joined the US Navy.
After Naval Recruit Training, Terry attended "A" school and earned his Electrician's Mate rating, which would be the groundwork for his lifelong career as an Electrician. During Terry's 20 years of long, often arduous, but always distinguished Naval career, he served aboard the USS OKLAHOMA CITY (CLG5), USS KEARSARGE (CVS33), USS COVE (MSI1), USS W.S. SIMS (DE1059), and the USS HEWES (from which he retired). These many deployments allowed him to visit many ports of call around the world. The most life changing deployment was that of Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam, where he volunteered for Coastal Zone Advisory duty; a duty which he would never talk about. In addition to his service at sea, he served on land as a Recruiter and Volunteer Firefighter in Jamestown, NY, and as a Recruit Company Commander in Great Lakes, IL. Terry retired from the Navy on October 16, 1979 while stationed in Charleston, SC.

Terry's life "after the Navy" found him working for an electrical contractor which brought him and his family to Orlando, FL to participate in the building of the Orlando International Airport. Terry then went to work for the local Orange County Government as an Electrician in the Utilities Department, Water Reclamation Division. There he served another 20 years of service from February 11, 1985 to February 11, 2005. During his time in Orlando, Terry became a Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge Eola 207 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4287. For a period of time Terry was also a member of the Bahia Temple Orlando, Bahia Flying Fezzes, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry where he reached 32*, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2427, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3496, BPO Elks Lodge 2694, enjoyed stock car racing under the name T & D Racing at Orlando Speedworld, and riding his trike with the Florida Independent Harley Owners and the GWRRA Central Florida Wings Chapter FL1-H2.

Terry is predeceased by his sisters Joan Irving and Kay McDaniel. Surviving are his brothers Charles and Gary (Sharon) McDaniel, son Raymond Shawn (Lori), daughters Anne Daniel, Robin (Wade) Muse, Laura (Brad) Nasiatka, and Tera (Barry) Weiss along with eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

An Orlando memorial service will be held on September 8, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Eola Masonic Lodge #207 located at 3200 E. Grant St., Orlando, Fl 32806. In lieu of flowers, Terry asked that donations be made in his name to your favorite Veterans organization or disabled/injured children's organization/hospital.
Per his wishes, Terry will be laid to rest alongside his parents and sister Kay at Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, Ohio at 10:30 a.m. on October 11, 2018.
