Terence “Terry” Delahunty, Jr. passed away on October 18, 2026, surrounded by family after a long battle with dementia.
He was born in New York, New York, the oldest of six children of Doris and Terence Delahunty, Sr. The family eventually moved to Florida, settling in Plantation, where he graduated from Plantation High School.
Terry attended the University of Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American History and a Juris Doctor from the Frederic G. Levin College of Law. While at UF, Terry was a member of Florida Blue Key, serving as its treasurer and was inducted into the UF Hall of Fame in 1983. He was also a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity where he met his college sweetheart Janice Wolfe and a lifelong group of friends colloquially known as the Fun Hogs (long story!).
Terry and Janice married on June 14, 1980, in St. Augustine, Florida. Upon graduation, they moved to Orlando, Florida where Terry began his law career. He spent nearly 25 years at Foley & Lardner LLP as a commercial real estate attorney, eventually joining GrayRobinson before opening his own practice focused on commercial real estate, land use and sustainability, and alternative dispute resolution.
Terry was a dual US and Irish citizen and an active member of the Irish-American community in Central Florida. He served for many years as Ireland’s first-ever honorary consul for Orlando. He also had a passion for volunteering within his local community, including with St. James Cathedral and School, Orlando’s Downtown Development Board, NAIOP, Orlando Cloisters Senior Housing, and the Orange County Regional History Center. He will be remembered for his irreverent humor, selfless generosity, love of old trees, affinity for barefoot running, his gift of the gab, love of the Orlando Solar Bears, and as the self-proclaimed king of trivia.
Terry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice; his four children, Molly, Emily, Sarah, and Terence “Terry” III; his siblings Mark (Ramona), Claire (John Yates), Ann-Marie, Carol (John Arrigo), and Peter (Melanie); his aunt Sarah Maloney; his cousins Patrice Malloy (Jay) and Mary Ellen Boate (Kenan); and his dogs Ollie the Irish wolfhound and his “sweet baboo” Billy the bichon frisé.
A funeral Mass will take place at St. James Catholic Cathedral at 2 pm on Monday, October 26, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Orlando Lutheran Towers memory care facility, where Terry spent many happy days “volunteering” over the past several years.
