REDDITT, SYLVIA N.-
Sylvia Redditt, a resident of Deland, Florida since 1989, passed
away on July 28, 2014. She was born on February 14, 1921 in Needham, MA. She moved to Florida in 1972 and married Richard Redditt, who predeceased her.
She was trained in music in Massachusetts and was one of the first to hold a Masters in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. Sylvia was a music teacher in the Seminole County, FL schools for several years before retiring to Deland. She was a concert pianist who gave her first recital at Faneuil Hall in Boston, MA at age 13. She also taught piano for many years. In 1988, she was selected as Teacher of the Year in Seminole County.
Sylvia has been a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church since moving to Deland.
She is survived by her son, James "Tim" Newslow of Ormond Beach, FL.; daughter, Debby Newslow of Orlando, FL; three stepsons, Richard W. Redditt, Carlsbad, CA; Bruce Redditt, Alpharetta, GA; Tom Redditt, Longwood, FL; two grandchildren, Heather Garvey and Tom Newslow, both of Ormond Beach, FL and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Deland, FL on August 2, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. with The Very Rev. Brian Garrison officiating. A reception will follow in the Canterbury House. Interment will be held at a future date in a family plot located in Massachusetts.
