It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sushila Aggarwal (Mittal) on June 6, 2025, at the age of 94 in Orlando, Florida after a difficult battle with Bulbar ALS.
Sushila was a fiercely loyal, kind and caring woman who loved her family deeply and always gave the best of herself to others. No matter what life gave her she always carried herself with grace and dignity. She worked hard at everything she did and was always looking to improve herself and be helpful to those around her. She loved to travel and to play bridge. Her love of bridge enticed her children Anil and Pam to learn to play as well. Her son Anil was her bridge partner for many years and in 2020 she became a Life
Master and in March 2025 she earned the title of Silver Life Master.
Sushila was born on February 3, 1931, in Meerut, India to Ganga Prasad and Satya Wati. She was the 4th of 7 siblings. When she was 9 years old, she decided she wanted to become a doctor which was unheard of for a girl at that time. At the age of 13 she left home to pursue her dream. She attended Allahabad University for Undergrad earning a Bachelor of Science and in 1950 she started her medical school training at Lady Harding Medical School where she graduated in 1955. She married and immigrated to the USA on June 3, 1961. She completed her residency in Virginia. She then moved to Michigan and started a career at the State of Michigan mental health system working at Clinton Valley Hospital in Pontiac and Northville Regional as a Psychiatrist. After that, she continued working at Redford Suburban Community Clinic. In 1982, while working full time and raising her family, she attained Board Certification in Psychiatry. This was a very rare and difficult achievement since it was decades after completion of her medical training. Her career spanned over 50 years and she helped countless numbers of individuals. She was well respected and loved by both the staff, colleagues and her patients. She fully retired at the age of 80.
She adored her grandchildren Alex and Anika who lived close by and was so very proud of both of them. She enjoyed spending time with them and was always available to play a competitive game of Parcheesi, Rummikub or to cook Indian food for them.
She is survived by her children Anil (Barbara) Aggarwal, Rajiv Aggarwal (Jung-Sun Cho) and Pamela (Garth) Stephen. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alex (Karissa) Longo-Stephen, Anika Stephen (Sam Ketha) and Ashwani Rajiv Aggarwal.
Her absence will be felt deeply by those who loved her, and she will be missed every day.
