Obituary

Susan J. (McCool) Smey, age 74 of Orlando, Fl, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at home on July 23, 2018. Susan was born in North Hampton, MA on September 20th, 1943. Second of seven children to the late Thomas and Alma McCool; sisters Marguerite Bell, Alma Pope, Norma Ruff, Nadine LaLonde, Lynell Payne, and brother Thomas McCool. After graduation, Susan met and married the love of her life, husband of 24 years, the late Donald J. Smey and they had four daughters. Susan is survived by her daughters Nadine Wood (Jim Wood), Lisa Smey-Mizrahi (Eric Loreck), Dawn Seng (James Seng), and Susan Heather Smey, and her grandchildren Blane Stanton and Arielle Smey Mizrahi.
Susan was a nurturer, and had a natural instinct to serve, and with that became an educator at Good Shepherd Catholic school where she shared her knowledge of computers and her extraordinary artistic talents with her students for 26 years, and continued teaching until her retirement.
Susan was an active member in her school, church and community, and was known for her selflessness, giving nature, and donating her time and efforts for the good of others.
Susan was always the perfect hostess; a lover of a good party and family gatherings. Throughout her life she maintained a sweetness about her that won the trust and hearts of so many. Even today, I'm sure each of us can recall a memory or a moment with Susan that changed our life…or continues to affect positive change today.
Her signature gift of joy was shone through her smile, laughter and joking around that will never be forgotten. The family wishes to thank all of those who made her final days so special her. Susan always said that "Laughter is the best medicine", and that each of you were "the pills that were easy to swallow", that brought sunshine into her life when needed the most.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Margaret Mary Chapel in Winter Park, Fl., on Monday, August 6th at 10am. The chapel service will be followed by a celebration of Susan's life.
