Susan enjoyed a long (35 years) and illustrious nursing career at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. During her employment, Susan pursued formal professional education and obtained a Master's degree in Public Administration. Susan was promoted to administrative roles with responsibilities in various clinical areas including emergency, pediatric and psychiatric, until her retirement in 1999. The many nurses whom she mentored, supported, and advocated for became treasured colleagues during her tenure.
As an assistant director of nursing, Susan led pediatric and psychiatric nursing services and readily took young and inexperienced nurses under her wing. Known as a strict but forgiving manager who provided direction and support, she expected that every "t" was crossed and "i" dotted, and ensured that nurses took pride in their work, gaining their respect and admiration. Susan taught the nurses how to be strong leaders who, first and foremost, must always be patient advocates. She set high expectations of those she mentored including development of leadership behaviors, but nurses knew that she was always available for support and guidance.
Susan was a woman of great faith and enjoyed volunteering at All Soul's Catholic Church and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 22 at 1:00 PM at All Soul's Catholic Church, at the Historic Chapel located at 800 S. Oak Avenue, Sanford FL.
