Susan Colbert, 77 of Sanford, Florida passed away February 12, 2019. Mrs. Colbert was born July 27, 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Colin and Rosamond Levy. Service will be held at the grave site at 10:00 AM on Tuesday March 5th, 2019. The All Souls Cemetery, Hardy Ave and, W 25th St, Sanford, FL 32773 which is right next to the Sanford Cemetery.

Sue is survived by her loving husband Michael Colbert and daughters, Mishelle Ross and Bridget Odam, her grandchildren Jarrod Ross, Frankie Odam, Cassandra Odam and great granddaughter, Hayden. She was also survived by two sisters Anne Douglass and Jessie Trickett, their husbands and several nephews and nieces. She was proceeded in death by her son, Christopher and her parents. She was married to Mike, September 9th, 1961 in Silver Spring, MD. They moved to Florida in 1964.

Sue retired from AT&T (BellSouth) phone company after over twenty years of service as a service rep. She was always customer focused and provided the best product that would meet the customers' needs. She was recognized many times for her exceptional work.

In 1968, she began a new chapter of her life when her sister-in-law, Georgette Colbert, gave her and husband, Mike, a Siberian Husky puppy. That gesture would become the catalyst to a new venture, breeding and showing Huskies. At the time, unable to find another Siberian owner who showed their dogs in conformation, Sue relied on long distance instruction from her sister-in-law to teach her how to handle dogs in the ring. This would have a lasting effect on Sue, propelling her desire to help newcomers embark on a similar path.
In the early '70's, Sue was instrumental in helping to found the Siberian Husky Club of Central Florida. Success was achieved when the group planned and produced their first AKC breed show in Orlando. In 1990, the Siberian Husky Club of Central Florida was selected to host the Siberian Husky Club of America's National Specialty. Under Sue's leadership as chairman of the event, the National Specialty was an overwhelming success.

A long time breeder of Sumik Siberians, Sue had an uncanny ability to match her females with the best stud dog, rearing puppies of exceptional confirmation and movement. Sue would generously share this knowledge with her fellow breeders, producing many champions in the Conformation ring with titles in both the Agility and Obedience rings. Sue had a reputation for selling a potential show pup, usually a pick of the litter to a promising newcomer and then remaining a co-owner so that she could help the new partner by training and showing the dog to ensure their success.

Sue's presence will be surely missed by the Siberian community and by all who knew and loved her. Her smile, her generosity and her love for this breed will be cherished for years to come as her legacy lives on.

The plans are for a gravesite service. The date is March 5, 2019 at 10:00 am in the All Souls Cemetery, Hardy Ave and, W 25th St, Sanford, FL 32773. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you make donations to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society in her name.
