Stella Katherine Chorzempa Campbell died peacefully in her sleep on September 18, 2019, at the age of 97, just one month shy of her 98th birthday. Stella was born on October 17, 1921 in South Berwick, Maine to Joseph and Nellie Chorzempa. The family moved to Wilton, Maine where she attended school, graduating from Wilton Academy. After graduation, she moved to Lewiston, Maine and enrolled in the Nursing program at St. Mary's Hospital.
It was there that she met and married her husband, Grover Hanson Campbell in June of 1941. Stella and Grover went on to have three children, living in Maine until they moved to Orlando, Florida in July of 1959. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Grover who passed away in January of 1975.
Stella had a long career as a nurse, retiring from Orlando General Hospital in 1984. Even after retirement, she continued to do private duty nursing for many years.
The most important thing in Stella's life was her family. She had three children, a son, Frederic Campbell and two daughters, Julia Colangelo and Victoria Weimer (deceased). She is survived by her son, Frederic Campbell of Sumner, Maine; her daughter Julia Colangelo of Minneola, Florida, as well as 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. She could and would tell you the birthdates of everyone of them!
Stella was very involved with the PNA {Polish National Alliance}, serving as president of the organization multiple times. She was very proud of her Polish heritage and was very happy to have had the opportunity to travel to Poland with friends at one point.
Stella loved needle work of all kinds. She either knit or crocheted afghans for all of her many children and grandchildren, as well as many family friends. Stella was also an avid reader. She kept track of every book she read. So far this year, she read 27 books!
She lived in her own home in east Orlando until she fell and broke her leg in 2012. At that time she moved in with her daughter Julia and husband Mike, who were fortunate enough to share the remainder of her life with them. She loved to go out and walk around the block in the mornings and greet all the neighbors and their dogs!
Stella will be missed so much by all who knew her, friends as well as family!
Her Memorial Service will be at the Church of the Messiah in Winter Garden, Florida on Monday, September 23rd at 11:00 AM
