Obituary

On Monday November 30 2020, Stanley Joseph Hinkle, loving husband and father of five children, grandfather of eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild passed away at the age of 83.

Stanley was born on September 16, 1937 in Washington, Indiana to Ralph and Mary Louise (Klier) Hinkle. He received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University in 1963 and a Master of Engineering Systems from Detroit Research Institute in 1968. He was employed by Detroit Diesel Corporation for 35 years, rising to the position of Director of Engineering Technology. During his tenure at Detroit Diesel, Stan was instrumental in the development of diesel technology and received multiple patents.

On June 13, 1964 he married Jeanette Elizabeth Niester. Together, they raised three daughters, Cynthia, Patricia and Jennifer and twin sons, Joseph and Jeffrey.

Stan had a great love of basketball and for many years held the single game scoring record of 38 points at Washington Catholic High School. He continued his involvement with the game by coaching his sons and daughter's CYO basketball teams. He had an interest in the space industry and early in his college career desired to become an astronaut. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea and Vietnam.

Stan was a member of the Knights of Columbus and held fourth degree knight status.Throughout his life, he was active in multiple catholic parishes as a coach, usher, member of the Dad's club and as a volunteer for charitable causes.

Stan was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.
He is truly missed and will be held in our hearts forever.

Stan was preceded in death by his father Ralph, his mother Mary, his brothers Ralph, John, Bernard, Stephen and Michael, his stepmother Wilma (Graber) Hinkle, stepbrother Don Graber, and stepsister Saundra France. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Elizabeth (Niester) Hinkle, children Cynthia Hinkle, Patricia (Hinkle) Wyborski, Joseph Hinkle, Jeffrey Hinkle, and Jennifer Hinkle, his grandchildren Anthony, Gabrielle, Kyle, Nicole, Jacob, Jessica, Daniel, Lillie, Samantha, Joseph, Andrew and great grandchild Maverick, his brothers Thomas Hinkle, Eugene Hinkle and sister Mary Frances (Hinkle) Byrd, stepsisters Janet Rosdill and Betty Graber, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church, Orlando will be held at 10:30am on Friday, December 18, 2020. Live streaming at holyfamilyorlando.com. Scroll all the way down. On the right hand side you will see Holy Family webcam.

Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30pm, Friday, December 18, 2020 at Queen of Angels Catholic Cemetery, Winter Park.

Due to Covid-19, we ask that all wear a mask and social distance at the services.
