Obituary

SHIRISH TRIVEDI
Shirish Trivedi passed away in Oviedo, Florida on Sunday morning, September 17, 2023, at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife, Pratibhaben Trivedi; son, Dr. Bhavya; daughter-in-law, Dr. Swati; two granddaughters, Savitri and Sakshi; daughter, Dr. Dipali; and son-in-law, Suraj. He was born in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, and his parents moved to Kolkata, West Bengal, where he grew up with 2 older brothers and 3 older sisters. He graduated with an engineering degree from the prestigious India Institute of Technology, in Kharagpur, along with his older brothers, Yogeshbhai and Ajitbhai. Then he pursued a Masters degree in computer engineering at the University of California in Berkeley and worked briefly in the United States before returning back to India. At this time, his parents returned to Gujarat to live in Varodara where Shirish set up a business manufacturing calculators. He also married the youngest daughter, Pratibha Thakkar, of very close family friends from Kolkata, and the couple had two children. Eventually, Shirish decided to return to the United States, and the family initially settled in Endicott, New York, close to Shirish's older brother, Ajit Trivedi. With his background in computer engineering, he worked in IBM during its intense growth in the 1980's and moved with his family to Boca Raton, Florida when a branch was opened there. Shirish was very active in the South Florida Indian community. Ever socially conscious and always believing in giving back to the community, Shirish was an enthusiastic member of the Hindu association which helped build the South Florida Hindu Temple in the 1990's. At its inception and for many years thereafter, he served as treasurer for the organization. Additionally, he had a great love for music and was a self-taught singer and keyboard player. As such, he was part of a small music group which performed at various Indian functions, singing songs in Hindi as well as Marathi, both Bollywood songs as well as bhajans. His other hobbies included playing tennis, golf, and going to the beach for walks or to swim in the ocean. In 2016, Shirish and Pratibha moved to Orlando, Florida to live near their son and daughter who had settled here. He enjoyed these last years of his life watching his granddaughters grow up, participating in the local Indian senior citizen community, playing golf, and making new friends. A sweet, kind, gentle, loving man, Shirish will be missed.
