Obituary

Sherrie L. O'Neill, 56, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital from complications related to her breast cancer. Sherrie was surrounded by those she loved most, her immediate family, at the time of her peaceful passing.
She leaves her husband Mitchell, mother Eleanor Young, brother Glenn Young and wife Elizabeth and nieces Alyssa and Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Young in 2004.
Sherrie was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on November 7, 1961. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1978 and worked as a receptionist for 7 years at a law firm in downtown St. Petersburg. She married Mitchell in 1981 and moved to Arlington, Texas in 1985 in support of her husband's new job opportunity. She worked at Levitz Furniture for 7 years. Then after 10 years in Texas, Sherrie and Mitchell moved back to St. Petersburg at the end of 1995.
Sherrie worked for the City of Treasure Island in the Recreation Department for the next 20 years. She retired in January 2017 to focus on her health and spend more time with her friends and family. Her annual vacations with Mitchell to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee around Christmas time brought her the most joy. She loved the beauty of the mountains, the cold weather and all the festivities that the area had to offer during that wonderful time of year.
A private service will be held at her home for family members.
The following is a special tribute from Alyssa Young, Sherrie's niece, that so beautifully speaks to their loving relationship and also echoes our feelings as a family.
"It is with a very heavy heart that I thank all of you; friends and family, for all of your sweet prayers for my Aunt Sherrie and my family. She went to be with the Lord today around 3pm. She is no longer in pain, and no longer having to fight the ugly battle that is cancer. She is, and always will be a beautiful blessing in my life. We love you so very much, and know that you are up there with your heavenly father, as well as your earthly father. I love you forever and ever. You will always be in my heart."
