"Your Hug Meant the World" by Tamsen Butler

Nobody else held me so tight, or made me feel so right
No one's eyes shined so bright with love, as my mom, who is now high above.

The world lost a beloved Wife, Mother, Daughter and Sister, Sheri Lynn Mathews, on January 3,
2025. Sheri passed after a month-long illness in Hospice care, but it never stopped her from giving
out the best hugs when her children were nearby. She devoted her life to her two children as an at-
home mother, leaving her position as an English Teacher of 16 years at Oviedo High School, shortly
before her first child was born. Sheri was an avid reader and writer, noting that Shakespeare was her favorite author. She also served as a Freshman Cheerleading sponsor at OHS and a Creative Writing club sponsor. That is where she eventually met her future husband Kevin Mathews, who also taught at OHS.

Sheri was surrounded by her family in passing, including her two children Savannah and Tanner and a life-long childhood friend Michelle. Sheri was born in Hollywood, Florida on September 4, 1960, and was a proud Florida native. Upon graduating from high school, Sheri attended the University of
Florida and an avid Gator supporter! She earned a bachelor's degree in education and soon started
her teaching career. Her colleagues knew her as a kind soul, always willing to listen when her
students needed a compassionate ear. Sheri is survived by her husband Kevin, her two children
Savannah and Tanner, her parents Ken and Charlotte Arthur, her brother Stephen and sister-in-law
Victoria Arthur.

Family and friends are invited to gather to say a final goodbye to Sheri at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Maitland, Florida on January 18th from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Trent Pope.
