Sharon Kay Hockett of Winter Park, FL passed peacefully on April 29, 2024 at the age of 60. She leaves behind a legacy centered on embracing life to its fullest. She is survived by her twin sister Karen Nieves, sister JoAnn Hankey (Michael), brother Gary Hockett (Lesa), niece (Christy) and four nephews (Kevin, Josh, Jason, and Ryan), several great nieces and nephews, and her American Hairless Terrier Mac. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Jeremy Hockett.
Born November 26, 1963, in Battle Creek, MI to Bruce and Dorma Hockett, Sharon had a passion for sports and music. Throughout her school years she played on the bowling team, softball team, and boys baseball team, ran track and field, and played the coronet. From a young age, she gave 150% to everything she did… even her first job at McDonald's, where she ascended to a leadership role and found immense joy in her work for numerous years.
In 1994, Sharon relocated to Central Florida, where she embraced the sunshine and water activities. Her career as a parts manager never felt like work, as she found joy in every endeavor she pursued.
Known for her infectious and always present smile, Sharon demonstrated an unbelievable zest for life and was genuine through and through. Even through her battle with cancer she remained positive and kept smiling. Her optimism and desire to live a life she loved gave her friends and family countless fond memories to cherish.
An outdoor enthusiast, Sharon led the Orlando Runners Group for years where she fostered friendships and made everyone feel welcome. Whether running, biking, kayaking, or paddle boarding, she was always surrounded by friends, capturing moments with her famous "Sharon Selfie."
Her friendships were meaningful, and she was always there for her friends no matter what they needed. Sharon adored animals, especially her dogs King, Little Girl, Jack, and Mac. Above all, Sharon cherished her family and the special bond she had with her twin sister.
