Ruis "Sonny" N. West Jr., 92, of Port Orange, Florida, died peacefully at home on June 5, 2025.

Sonny was born in Moultrie, Georgia on January 24, 1933. He served as a Sargent in the United States Army from 1953 - 1955 and then went on to work as a Railroad Engineer, retiring after 47 years.

Sonny was a well respected Mason, serving almost every Officer position, some more than once. He was also a 32 - degree Scottish Rite member, as well as a member of the Eagles Club, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Shriners. In his spare time, Sonny enjoyed fishing and target shooting.

Sonny was preceded in death by Ruis Neverlon West Sr. and Dorothy McReynolds and is survived by his wife Barbara West, his daughter Joetta West, his two stepsons Scott McLeod and Randy Swindell, his stepdaughter Kandi Swindell, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ruis "Sonny" West Jr. will be held on Wednesday June 11, 2025 at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Sanford, Florida.
