Ruby Irene Pierson passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023. She was born in Indianapolis, IN December
27, 1925 to Leo Hancock and Marguerite (Mitchell) Hancock. She had two brothers, Leo Hancock Jr. and
Rhea Hancock, both deceased.
Ruby met the love of her life, John B. Pierson, a WWII Army Air Corps pilot, at a skating rink in
November. She loved to skate! Truly must have been love at first sight because they married 3 months
later on Feb. 14, 1946 and were together for 68 years. John was recalled to active duty as a Captain in the
USAF in 1952. Together they had a wonderful and exciting life traveling the world. Deciding to not
return to Indiana and snowy roads and sidewalks, they retired in 1968 and built a home in Maitland, FL.
During their military years they were stationed in England, Germany, Patrick AFB in Cocoa, Chanute
AFB in Rantoul, IL, Clark AFB in the Philippines, Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton Beach, FL and travelled to
lots of countries before retiring to Maitland, FL.
Ruby was a talented seamstress who could sew anything, an avid Bridge player, loved to do puzzles and
crosswords, cooked, baked, entertained in their home and traveled the country in their motor home. She
was all that and so much more.
Ruby and John were involved with several Masonic organizations. Ruby was president of Athaliah #114,
Daughters of the Nile in 1989 and of Kismet Court No. 86, Ladies Oriental Shrine of NA in 1995. John
was president of Bahia Shrine in 1997 and Ruby supported him in all his activities. All these
organizations support the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a charity very dear to them both.
They had 3 children, John B. Pierson, Jr. Casselberry, FL, Deborah Zimmerman (Gary) Altamonte
Springs, FL, Jeff Pierson (Maureen) Orlando, FL; Grandchildren, Jason Zimmerman (Janelle) Winter
Garden, FL, James Pierson Casselberry, FL, Brian Zimmerman (Chloe) Cudjoe Key, FL, Jessica Torres
(deceased); Great-grandchildren Peyton Zimmerman, Jocelyn Torres, Porter Zimmerman.
It was a life well-lived and she will be so missed.
