Roy James Thompson, 88, of Myakka City, Florida passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016. He was born on September 30, 1927 in Gulfport, Florida to Clara and Samuel Thompson. He was a hardworking man who lived a full and adventurous life. He actively served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He owned his own pool finishing business, T & T Pool Finishers, Inc., which has been passed on to his son, Jaimie.
He loved fishing, especially cast netting for mullet. He built his own smokehouse in Gulfport and began smoking mullet and selling it; this marked the beginning of R.J. Thompson & Son.
In 1999, he moved to Myakka City where he started many more adventures. For many years, he would take his grandson, Roy, and his hunting dogs and go coon hunting in Avon Park. This was something that he really enjoyed to do and it meant a lot to him. Over the years, he stayed busy and never really slowed down. Whether it was driving around, caring for his plants, or just spending time with his family; there was never a dull moment during his life.

He is predeceased by his father, Samuel; mother, Clara; brothers: Jack, George, and Ben; and sisters: Emma, Harriet and Dorothy. He is survived by his son, Jaimie; daughter-in-law, Cheryl; and his grandchildren, Roy and Brittney.

There will be a visitation on Friday, May 6, 2016 at R. Lee Williams & Son Funeral Home (3530 49th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33710) from 5:00-7:00 PM. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2016 at Royal Palm Cemetery South (101 55th Street South, St. Petersburg, FL 33707) at 12:00 PM. Following the service, there will be a gathering at the Lion�s Club (4630 Tifton Drive South, Gulfport, FL).
