Roger Laverne Kaas died peacefully at his daughter's home in Longwood, Florida on 9/15/2015 at the age of 88. Roger is survived by his wife, Shirley Kaas, his daughter and son-in-law Daria and Larry Vallario, his daughter Lindsay, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by his son, Stephen and daughter, Marie Elizabeth.
Roger was born May 8, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa to Dorothy and Francis Kaas. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1944 and served in the US Army Intelligence Corp in WWII. In 1946, he married Shirley Simons, his high school sweetheart, daughter of Betty and Dick Simons, also of Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from Drake University in 1952 with a Law Degree and Juris Doctorate and practiced Law in Burlington, Iowa for a short period of time, but found his life's work when he joined the FBI. He was a Special Agent, a member of the Pistol Team and proud to have worked with J. Edgar Hoover, the first Director of the FBI. He and his family settled in Thomasville, Georgia, a place Mr. Hoover allowed him to choose to retire in, after successfully assisting with several very high profile FBI cases.
When his son was young, Roger was a dedicated Boy Scout Master. He was active with the Toastmaster's and served as President. In his spare time, he enjoyed flying gliders, golfing, hunting, fishing, reading and gun collecting. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
