Robin Denise (Nelson) Morrissey died peacefully in hospice on July 7th in Altamonte Springs, Florida at the age of 68.
Born on October 15th, 1957 in Clanton, Alabama to Guy and Nancy Nelson, she quickly became an “Army Brat” at an early age when her parents divorced. Her stepfather, Gary Coonrod, moved frequently as part of his Army service in locations such as Alaska, Kentucky, Georgia and North Carolina. Robin later moved to LaGrange, Georgia so she could complete high school – graduating from LaGrange High School in 1975 - becoming an expert word processing operator.
She later took a job and moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where she met her future husband who was stationed there. Married in the JFK Chapel on Ft. Bragg, Robin embraced the role of an Army wife. After their time in the service, the family welcomed two children, Casey Ann and Colin Charles, and settled in Florida.
Robin was a cherished figure in her community, known for her beautiful, warm smile and loving heart. She always maintained an open-door policy welcoming anyone who wished to stop by to sample her outstanding recipes or simply enjoy her company in conversation. She was well-liked and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Robin was also a devoted animal lover and her beloved female Boxer, Piper, was truly the light of her life. She will be deeply missed by her family and especially by her beloved and only grandchild, Sophie Katherine.
She is survived by her loving husband, William Morrissey. In addition, her legacy continues through her children, daughter Casey Ann (married to Aaron Smith of St. Cloud) and son Colin Charles (married to Cara Adelman of Altamonte Springs). Robin is also survived by two brothers – Phillip and Jess, and her sister, Phyllis, all of Riverview, Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Guy; her stepfather, Gary; as well as her grandparents, Gladys Pearl and Jesse Bowles.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 16th , 2026 at the DeGusipe Funeral Home - Maitland Chapel, 9001 N. Orlando Avenue, Maitland, Florida 32751. The family kindly requests that business casual is the attire for the service. The family will receive friends and visitors to pay their respects from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a prayer service at 2:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for October 17th , 2026, with further details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Robin’s favorite charity, Florida Boxer Rescue
