It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that Robert W. Yeazell Jr (Bob) has passed away in his sleep at home on Aug. 22, 022. He was comforted by many family members. Bob was the only child of Robert W. Sr. and Ellen Ayer Yeazell. He was born in Springfield, Ohio. He was educated at St. Raphael Elementary, Springfield Catholic High School, and University of Dayton.
Bob became a Master Electrician like his father, owning and operating The Yeazell Electric Company. There was an exception here. At an early age his father gifted him with an alto sax, and this changed his life forever.
While in high school he organized a small dance band, playing any gig they could - school dances, service and social clubs. Then had organized a 12 piece band. This paved the way for gigs at country clubs, ballrooms, wedding receptions and more service and social clubs all over Ohio.
Then Bob was drafted into the Army (Korean War). He was stationed at Red Stone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama as a Technical Writer. With music running through his veins, he soon had a small band playing at a lounge in town. Not long after, General Vincent called him to come to his office. Bob didn't have a clue what he had done wrong. Gen. Vincent soon began asking about his musical background and was very impressed. Then the reason for the summons was announced..Gen. Vincent stated that all the posts had a marching band except him. Did Cpl. Yeazell think he could field a marching band for him? The answer was YES! With recruiting members from base, borrowing instruments and charts from schools, and lots of practice a band arose. Gen. Vincent was was so proud of his "45 piece marching band" that he had them at every parade within miles.
After his discharge, Bob & family returned to Springfield. He then organized a 15 piece dance band under the name BUDDY YOUNG. This then evolved into The Buddy Young Dance Band and Show. They played ballrooms, country clubs, fairs, senior centers, etc. from coast to coast and Canada. Buddy eventually moved to Florida, playing the same venues. The only difference was that all his children were very talented and also played in the band.
We miss you Buddy..
Buddy is survived by his wife, 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
His funeral Mass was held at St Jude Cathedral , St. Petersburg. with Military and Committal Rites at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clearwater, Fl
