Robert Paul Schuller passed away Monday, October 30, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born September 29, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN to Joseph and Olive Mae (Turgeon). His mother died when he was 8 years old, and he was raised by his father and his father's second wife, Lily (Bakke). As a 16 year old, he joined the fight during WWII briefly as a member of the Merchant Marines, and then as a mechanic in the Army Air Corps. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant.
He met the love of his life, Dallas Elizabeth Hengel, and they were married December 28, 1957 in Albuquerque, NM. After leaving the service, he worked for Westinghouse. The family moved to Orlando, FL in 1968, and Bob became a history teacher at Sanford Middle School, in Sanford, FL and then Jackson Heights Middle School in Oviedo, FL. At the same time Bob worked part-time for Time Warner Cable.
Bob was the strong family man. He was a good husband, generous with his children, and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a patriot and loved his country. He was a strong Catholic and had been a member of St Margaret Mary Church since 1968. In his lifetime Bob donated over four gallons of blood, fed the homeless, and volunteered to help the migrant workers of Zellwood. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, bicycling, rollerblading, and snow skiing.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, brother Joseph, and daughter Mary Celeste. He is survived by his wife Dallas of Winter Park; son Tim (Lisa) of Vero Beach, FL; son Tom (Laurie) of Scottsmoor, FL; daughter Charlyne Cross (James) of Belle Isle, FL; son Greg (Linda) of Orlando, FL; daughter Cathleen Mestre (Arsenio) of Belle Isle, FL; brother Thomas of St Joseph, MN; sister Diane Griffin of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Gregory Schuller of Arizona City, AZ; sister Bernadine Schwatagen of Lindstrom, MN; sister Jane Kane of Plymouth, MN; brother Leland Schuller of Reno, NV; grand children Kristyn Schuller, Kathryn Schuller, and Robert (Analiza) Schuller and their mother Lysa (Kaplan) Schuller; Thomas (Nicole) Schuller and Jennifer (Ralph) Cahoon; James Cross, Julianna Cross and Christina Cross; Joseph Schuller and Melissa Schuller; Alexander Mestre, Juliana Mestre, Cathleen Mestre, Daniel Mestre, and Mark Mestre; great-grandchildren Tyle Schuller, Daisey Cahoon, and Kash Cahoon.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, November 2 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the DeGusipe Funeral Home 9001 N Orlando Ave, Maitland, FL 32751.
A Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 3, at 9:30AM in the chapel at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park, FL. Followed by a full military burial at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery 5525 US 1 Mims, FL 32754 at 1:00PM.
