Obituary

Robert Patrick O’Connor, age 92, of Longwood, Florida, passed away peacefully on September3, 2026, surrounded by his loving children. Bob, as he was often called, was born on March 1, 1934, in Blanchester, Ohio, the son of William and Grace O’Connor.

Bob is survived by his son Robert P. (Maria) O’Connor, Jr.; his daughters Kimberly (John) Derion and Jennifer (Jordan) Godfrey; six grandchildren: Grant, Kelsie, Lia, Curtis, Shae, and Sean; two step-grandchildren: Michael and Sean; one great-grandson, Declan; three step-great- grandchildren: Leyla, Rowan, and Maverick; his brother Stephen (Mary Carol) O’Connor and sister Marie (the late Ed) Mahoney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn E. O’Connor, and his parents.

Bob met JoAnn through his sister Marie, who was JoAnn’s friend and coworker. Bob and JoAnn married at Holy Cross Church on September 17, 1960. They made their home in Cincinnati until relocating to Florida in 1980. JoAnn was the love of Bob’s life, and he remained devoted to her throughout their marriage, especially during her long journey with Parkinson’s disease.

After graduating from Xavier University in Ohio, Bob briefly served in the United States Army. He then spent his career in the field of information technology and ultimately retired from IBM. Bob was a proud Xavier fan and especially enjoyed watching the Xavier Musketeers basketball team. His love of sports extended to golf and following the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, and, after making Florida home, the Orlando Magic.

Bob was a devoted father who loved being involved in his children’s lives. He coached their baseball and soccer teams as they were growing up, creating countless memories along the way. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. His children and grandchildren were a source of great pride and happiness throughout his life.

Bob was a faithful Catholic and believed in giving back to others. He regularly volunteered at a homeless shelter each month, giving his time to help people in need. His willingness to serve others reflected his caring nature and generous spirit.

Bob faced his own journey with Parkinson’s disease with courage and perseverance. His faith remained an important source of strength, as did his love for his family.

Bob will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of sports, his Catholic faith, and his generosity toward others. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who valued family, faith, and the simple joys of life. Bob and JoAnn shared a lifetime of love, family, and memories. Although JoAnn passed away in June 2022, their love never ended. September 17, 2026, just two weeks after Bob’s passing, would have been their 66th wedding anniversary. It is comforting to know that they are together again. Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will remain forever in their hearts.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 10:00am at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714.
