Robert Alexander McMillan, age 103, of Longwood, Florida, went home to the Lord on March 27, 2022, where he was reunited with his beloved wife of 71 and a half years, Marion (who had predeceased him in January, 2018).
At the time of his passing, he was at home. His loving children, Robert (Patricia ), James (Sharon) and Marilyn, as well as his grandchildren, Matthew McMillan, Kelly McMillan and Brian McMillan, were with him in his final days. The family dogs were a big part of his life as well: Miss Lucy and the late Mr. Lucky, Clare Bear, Toby, Oliver and Freckles.
Robert was born on October 2, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri to Noble Elder and Nellie McMillan. He was predeceased by his brother Paul (Marian) and his sister Katherine Flischel (Al).
Robert grew up in St. Louis and graduated from the University of Missouri. He served in the United States Army during WW II and the Korean War.
He married Marion Leone on June 29, 1946. Together they raised their three children in Bergenfield, New Jersey until his retirement from TIAA/CREF in 1975, when they moved to Longwood, Florida.
At the McMillan family lakeside home, fondly called the McMillan Compound, many a Sunday dinner gathering featured cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
Over the years, many relatives and old friends from New Jersey frequented the McMillan Compound. "Uncle Bob" will be remembered by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and even more extended family.
Robert McMillan attended Wekiva Presbyterian Church in Longwood. His funeral service will be at Highland Memory Gardens in Apopka on April 12, 2022 at 10 AM.
