Obituary

Robert ("Bob") Francis Gibson, 80, passed away on August 21, 2014 at home in Lake Mary, Florida. He was born on March 31, 1934 in Winchester, Massachusetts to Margaret Mary (Almon) and Clifford Joseph, Gibson, Sr. Bob grew up in Reading, and graduated from Reading High School in June 1951. After the age of 17, he joined the Air Force and served 4 years during the Korean War. He utilized the G.I. Bill to go to college and graduated from Boston College with honors, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting.
Bob married the love of his life, Marilyn Theresa Ryan, in 1962 in Boston. Bob and Marilyn were happily married for 33 years, until her death in 1995.
Bob had an interesting career, starting at the General Accounting Office as an Auditor in Washington, D.C. and then as an Agent for the IRS. He enjoyed his time at State Street Bank in Boston, where held the position of Vice President and worked on special projects. In 1973, Bob and Marilyn moved to Florida, where Bob worked for the City of Coral Springs, Florida as Treasurer for a number of years. He then worked for publishing and service-related companies as CFO and retired in 1997. Bob was an avid reader, a great storyteller, and enjoyed playing cards, tennis, and spending time with his family. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Margaret Gibson, as well as his sister Rita (Gibson) Thomas.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen and Deborah, and their husbands, Mark Chmielarski and David Catalano, respectively, and his three grandchildren, Andrew and Sean Chmielarski and Jonathan Catalano; his brother, Clifford Joseph Gibson, Jr., of Reading, Massachusetts; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from Marilyn's family; and many nieces and nephews of both the Gibson and Ryan families.
A funeral mass will be held on September 5, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Rd., Altamonte Springs, FL 32714. Committal of ashes will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd., Forest City, FL 32703.
