At the age of 72, Riggs T. Gay passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025.
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, to John and Mattie Gay, Riggs grew up with a deep sense of duty and service. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Criminal Justice and went on to dedicate his life to law enforcement. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served as a homicide detective and sergeant, earning the respect of his colleagues and community alike.
Before joining the Sheriff's Office, Riggs brought joy to countless visitors as a monorail and submarine driver at Disney. His love for people, paired with his quick wit, made him a natural in every role he embraced.
Riggs shared 38 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Jill, and together they raised three children—Victoria Gay, Megan Lawrie (Gay), and John Gay—who were the pride of his life. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Riggs was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, never missing a chance to cheer them on.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at DeGusipe Funeral Home 9001 N Orlando Ave. Maitland, FL 32751.
