Obituary

Richard Reeves went to meet the Lord July 19, 2023 at the age of 79.

Richard is survived by his wife Rose, his son Morgan Reeves, his brother, Roger Reeves (Patti), and his sister Rita Burger (Mike).

He is preceded in death by his father Richard Finley Reeves, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, his mother Margaret Elizabeth Reeves, and his brother Ronald Reeves, as well as three basset hounds, Maggie, Annie and Abbie and one basset-beagle Daisy.

He was born in San Diego, California, September 8, 1943.

He graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1961. In 1965 he graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institute, Now Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Indiana with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering where he also lettered in football and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. In 1966 he received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rose Poly. In 1969 he received his M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T.

He was employed by Naval Avionics in Indianapolis during the 1960's. During the 1970's he worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. In 1980 he moved to Orlando, Florida to work for Martin Marietta, now Lockheed Martin from 1980-2003, when he retired. He then worked for Confluent in Melbourne, Florida from 2003-2006.

He was a great lover of college football and he and his wife Rose had UCF season tickets from 1990-2022.

Another passion of his was running. He was a member of the Orlando Aerospace squad of runners that competed locally and won the Orlando Corporate Cup in 1986. In 1996 he was selected in a lottery and ran the 100th Boston Marathon. 1997 he and Rose ran the London Marathon and the Chicago Marathon.

Being a lover of nature, he enjoyed going on eco tours of the Everglades and Florida Keys with his son Morgan.

He and Morgan also had shared enthusiasm for Japanese action and samurai films, particularly enjoying Akira Kurosawa's 1985 film "Ran".

In 2010 he and Rose were introduced to ocean cruising, thanks to REALM members and completed 24 cruises.

During his retirement he and Rose joined the University Club of Winter Park, where he enjoyed current events, the non-fiction book club, and other activities. He was a member of the Stag Club, a men only offshoot of the University club. He also was a member of Life at UCF and the Astronomy Club.

He will be dearly missed by all the lives he touched.
