Obituary

Richard Powell, 74
Richard was born November 17, 1942 in Woodbury, NJ, the youngest of 11 children. A lifelong farmer, Rich grew up on the family farm in Thorofare, NJ. He loved the land and being in the great outdoors! During his lifetime, he farmed all kinds of crops. He loved to restore tractors and was so talented at it. Richard was blessed with "know how" in fixing things. He spent many an hour fixing friends' tractors, and cars. He enjoyed hunting and in the last several years also enjoyed spending time fishing with his grandkids.
Richard was talented at turning land into farms. In the last twenty years, he had made two new farms and had enjoyed raising cattle. Even with poor health, he was always outside taking care of his chickens, goats and cows.
He met and married his wife, Paulette in 1964. The two enjoyed 53 years of a loving and committed marriage raising 5 children. Anyone who met Rich knew right away that his life was centered on God and his family. His strength of character was evident and enduring and anyone who was his friend knew that they had a true, lifetime friend. Richard always stood up for what he believed was right and everyone knew where he stood with his politics!
Along with farming, Richard was a lifetime member of Operating Engineers, Local 825. He loved operating heavy equipment for construction and was a part of building many a road in NJ and PA throughout his adult life.
He is predeceased in death by his beloved daughter, Melissa Lee (Scully), who we know greeted him with open arms when he entered heaven's gates.
Dearly loved and missed by his wife, Paulette, Children Annette (and Joseph Costro) , Laura (and Anthony Bushinger), Melinda (and George Hyland) and Richard Powell Jr.. Dear Pop pop to Joey, Schuyler, Jon, Micah, Jonah, Seth, Chloe, Joshua, Jason, Hannah, Joanna, and Shelby. Dearly loved and missed by sisters Dottie (and Richard Flemming) and Margie (Gorman) as well as many nephews and nieces. Predeceased in death by parents Merrill and Dorothy Powell, Siblings, Christopher Powell, Esther McFarland, Merrill Powell Jr, Eleanor Sipple, Jerry Powell, Florence (Bunny) Redrow, Irene Sterne and Fred Powell of Gloucester County, NJ.
Most recently living with his daughter in Oviedo, Florida, Richard also lived in Dunn, NC as well as Deptford, NJ and Egg Harbor City, NJ throughout his adult life.
There can never be another son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend like Richard Powell. Our comfort is to know he is with our Almighty Savior. We have victory in Jesus.
I Corinthians 15:55-57 O death where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
