Richard Paul (Dick) Litter, 83, was called into the Lord's arms on July 25, 2016, with his family by his side in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
He was born November 30, 1932, in Windsor, Connecticut, to John and Gertrude Litter. Dick grew up with his older brothers, Jack and Don and as each one turned 14 they began working in the tobacco fields. The family tradition was spending their summers at Westbrook, CT. He graduated from Loomis Chaffe High School and graduated from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. After college, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with his best friend, Pete Mankias to run the family bowling alley. He took a change of careers and began working as an underwriter at CNA Insurance in Winter Park, Florida, where he built his career for 40 years. It was at this job where he met his wife of 49 years, Lila DeVault. They settled down in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and soon were blessed with two daughters, Tina Marie and Julie Anne.

He was an active member of Saint Mary Magdalen since 1965 and volunteered with the church visiting homebound and assisting with the many needs of neighbors, friends, and church members up until the end. Dick and Lila provided a home (aka The Litter Lodge) where everyone was considered family. Dick never liked to stay still and his passion for helping others brought comfort to countless people. Dick was often described as a man "who you loved at hello." He loved being outdoors and he and his wife spent many weekends boating or water skiing with their friends, Woody and Angela Powers. Dicks friends Wayne Strickland and John Kelly had a tradition of taking all the children trick or treating and their annual fishing trips together on the St. Johns River were an experience to say the least.

Dick was blessed again with two granddaughters who absolutely adored their Pop-Pop. He relished at planning great vacations for his family and always coming up with the most fun and adventure for everyone involved. Truly a family man, Dick put everyone's needs first and was deeply appreciated and loved for his God given gifts.

He is survived by his wife, Lila; his daughters Tina Litter and Julie Shelton, his two granddaughters Brianna and Ashleigh Shelton; his brother John Litter and his wife Carolyn Litter; his 2 nieces and 2 nephews; 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Gertrude Litter, his brother, Don Litter; and his great niece, Katie Foley.

The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the DeGusipe funeral home in Maitland followed by funeral service Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at 2:00 at St. Mary Magdalen, Maitland, FL. The family has asked in lieu of flowers that donations be made in the name of Richard Paul Litter to Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714
