Col. Vernon August Moehring, age 98 died peacefully on March 30 at Westminster Winter Park.
Col. Moehring was born March 7, 1919 in Glencoe, Minnesota to the late Emil J. Moehring and Lillian Moehring (Jenecke). He attended William Penn College for 3 years on a football scholarship before enlisting in the Army to serve in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen ( Johnson), one brother, Emil (Corky) Moehring and two children: Barbara and Richard (Carol Anne). He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Moehring and Alex Vernon Moehring.
Col. Moehring is a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for 30 years including several tours abroad. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced
