She is also survived by several nieces and nephews still living in Germany.
Born in Worms, Germany in 1923; the family owned and ran a local restaurant and pub. As everyone is Germany was required to do during her younger years, she had to work for the "Homeland" for a period of one year. Her jobs were to work on a farm for 6 months and the other 6 months she was a streetcar toll collector where she met her first husband and they were married and later divorced. After WWII she met and married Sgt George W. Carpenter and relocated with him and her children to the United States and worked at the US Post Exchange and in a manufacturing plant as a seamstress, but mostly as a tireless homemaker. She enjoyed cooking German food, sewing, working in the yard, fishing, family, humor, German crossword puzzles, and saying "I don't need it and uh huh, I knew dat, too," cryptically. On every birthday that she celebrated with various family members she always gave everyone her "Birthday Salute". The last 10 years of her life she outlived all of her friends and wondered why she was still here.
A private service is being held in her remembrance, and memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter 480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714.
