Obituary

Rama Shankar Singh of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 6, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 27, 1938, in Varanasi, India, to Jhingur and Surajpati Singh, Rama lived a life defined by curiosity, connection, perseverance, and deep devotion to his family.

He came to the United States in 1962 to pursue higher education, studying physics at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He later earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and went on to lead research at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory. Rama continued his academic journey as a professor at the University of Mayagüez in Puerto Rico before transitioning into industry, working at General Electric in Utica, New York.

In 1985, he moved to Florida and joined what is now Lockheed Martin, where he contributed to significant defense and engineering projects, including the Bradley A1-M1 Tank and the Patriot Missile Defense System. Among his many technical achievements, he also took pride in contributing to the earliest development of night vision technology.

Rama's proudest and most personal work, however, came from lifelong research that led to the development of his patented QED Quadruplet Expanded DNA (QED) genetic model, a groundbreaking paradigm shift in molecular biology that would cure rare genetic diseases like Ichthyosis, a skin condition that affected his beloved late daughter, Usha. Through this endeavor, Rama sought not only scientific advancement, but healing, hope, and meaning.

He is survived by his lovingly devoted wife, Amrita Singh; his daughter, Asha Singh; his son, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Jessica; his grandchildren, Sonya Khan, Omar Khan, Parveen Khan, Ava Singh, and Neel Singh; and his siblings, Shankar Singh, Durga Singh, Daya Singh, and Radha Rai. He is also lovingly remembered by many extended family members who will miss him dearly as the Patriarch of the Singh family. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Usha Singh.

A Hindu funeral service (Agni Sanskar) will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 9:00 a.m. at DiGusipe Funeral Home in Orlando, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to GeneQEDc, Inc., his registered non-profit, and will be used to further his mission.
