Preston Purdy Richmond, 69 of Winter Park, Florida, passed away on April 17, 2017. Born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on March 13, 1948, he grew up in Belpre, Ohio. Named after the town in England where his father was born, Preston was the youngest of four children born to William and Catherine (Purdy) Richmond.

Prior to earning his M.D. at Wright State University School of Medicine in 1982, he worked as an optometrist in Boston, where he met his wife, Christine Murdoch. Preston earned a B.S. from Ohio University in 1969, and an O.D. in Optometry and M.S. in Physiologic Optics from The Ohio State University in 1973.

After completing his residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami and a vitreoretinal fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Preston moved to Winter Park in 1987, where he and his wife raised two children. He served as a physician partner for almost 30 years at Central Florida Retina.

In his spare time, Preston enjoyed woodworking, golf, tennis, boating, and spending time in Duxbury, Mass. He was an active member of the Winter Park Rotary Club and a board member of Lighthouse of Central Florida. He was a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Society of Retina Specialists, as well as a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Preston is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Christine, two adult children Susie Gresco (Ed) and Derek (Michelle), granddaughter Harper Gresco, brothers William "Clive" & Eric Richmond, and sister Joan Linthicum.

A funeral mass will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, April 22 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park.
