Dr. Pedro A. Marti, Pastor of New Beginnings Ministry, Inc. and Sidewalk Sunday School, passed away Tuesday, January 15 after a courageous and valiant battle with liver cancer. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on October 14, 1950 to Pedro Marti Figueroa and Julia Rivera, Pedro married Rosa Guerra on August 14, 1991. Moving to Winter Park, Florida in 2004 from Bohemia, New York, Rosa and Pedro became active in children's ministerial service and worked tirelessly to help educate, feed, clothe and love underprivileged youth through their church, First Baptist Church of Winter Park. Creating and sponsoring the Sidewalk Sunday School enabled the Marti's to interact with thousands of children throughout the years. Establishing a well-respected basketball team through New Beginnings Ministries was a highlight of the Ministry reaching countless young men. A beloved and trusted servant of the Lord, Pedro touched the lives of everyone he met.

Pedro was the doting father to twelve children: Angel Marti, Anthony Marti (Elizabeth), Glenda Marti (Ronnie Vasquez), Jose Ortiz (Jessica), Edithrose Mendez (Efrain Morales), Jason Marti, Kristie Ortiz, Pedro A. Marti, Jr., Victor Ortiz, Delilah Gobles (Garret), Roberto Ortiz (Leah) and J. Marti. He was also grandfather to 19 Grandchildren: Anthony Marti, Jr., Ronnie Vasquez Jr., Eladio Vasquez, Arianna Marti, Destiny Ortiz, Lala Marti, Elias Vazquez, Isabella Ortiz, Felicita Marti, Miguel Ortiz, Kyra Marti, Charisma Torres, Nathaniel Ortiz, Mileena Ortiz, Noah Gobles, Christina Torres, Jace Marti.

The "Going Home" Celebration of Pedro's life will be held at The First Baptist Church of Winter Park on Tuesday, January 22 from 5 - 8pm. The church is located at 1021 N. New York Avenue, Winter Park, Florida 32789.
