Obituary

Mrs. Patsy E. Scales
Cora Patsy Edmondson, daughter of Walter Ector & Cora McKinney Edmondson, was born May 31, 1918 in Bradford County Florida near Starke, the county seat. She had just finished high school with the hope of pursuing a teacher's education position but state law changed that year requiring a minimum of 2 years college. She then enrolled in business school in Gainesville, FL and her first job was working at a newspaper office under the name of the Gainesville Dailey Sun. Patsy was a secretary and proof reader.
Visiting home one weekend, she met the city clerk of Starke who offered her a position. She accepted the position and was happy to be home again. She kept this position until 1946 and relocated to Sanford after marriage. World War II began soon after she finished high school and business school. A big Army induction center; Camp Blanding, opened near Starke (Camp Blanding is still active as a training base for the National Guard). Soon khaki clad men were all over the streets. Among them were some of the church men including George Scales who became her husband 34 years later.
Patsy and her family were friends of the Younger family for over 35 years. In 1946 she married Earl Younger and moved to Sanford. She lost Earl in December of 1976 and George Scales lost his wife in January of the same year. While on a visit to Florida, George met Patsy again at a church meeting. He went back to Connecticut and began calling Patsy every day. She had informed him that she would not marry until one year had passed. January 1978 she married George Scales. She has been known to say that she thanks God over and over for being blessed with two good husbands. She states that she has had a good life and much to be thankful for. She leaves one step-son, Victor A. Scales and his wife, Penny G. Scales and their daughter, Fiona Joy as well as several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will meet for Graveside services at Evergreen-Sanford Municipal Cemetery, 1975 W. 25th Street, Sanford, Florida on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to DeGusipe Funeral Home, 905 Laurel Ave. Sanford, Florida 407-322-2131.
