Patrick Smith was the second son of Robert and Ethel Smith, born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 21, 1947. Pat was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Jim and Marty as well as both parents. Pat is survived by his sisters, Judy (Cris) Peck, and Margie Sum.
Pat graduated from St. Ignatius High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. serving in Tripoli, Libya.
Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he had an eclectic work history. He worked for NBC in New York City. He was a mechanic, a musician and worked for the family fence installation business. When Pat moved to Florida, he enrolled in Florida Technological University(University of Central Florida), and he and his younger sister, Margie graduated from FTU together on June 8, 1979. Pat graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Radio and TV.
Pat also worked with computer programming and the development of lasers in business and industry. He worked with Naval simulators and several top secret projects with the Navy. Pat owned his own computer consulting company, C & S Laser Components & Systems, Inc. Pat spent almost 40 years working for the ESSEX Corporation where his forte was human reaction factors. If it had to do with time, distance and speed, Pat was an expert.
With the retirement of Pat's mentor Dr. Robert S. Kennedy, Pat also retired. While in retirement, Pat continued to rescue any and every cat that would show up on his doorstep. No cat was ever turned away. When a cat adopted Pat, the cat would ignore all other humans.
Pat was a kindhearted uncle to his nieces and nephews: Jenni, Katie, Jessica, Mikey, Cris (Rachel), Lisa (Charlie), Elizabeth, Duke, Jake, Christine (Greg) and Corey (Jake). Pat was also mentor to many young people, encouraging and supporting then as they pursued their education.
If you needed help, Pat would give the shirt off his back, tools out of his tool box or car in the driveway.
A Memorial Service and Interment will take place on May 20, 2021, at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
