Owen "Big O" Norton Frakes

Owen Norton Frakes, 82, of Longwood passed away May 20, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born in Cincinnati, OH February 26, 1943. He was raised in Cincinnati and Williamstown, KY. He graduated from Greenhills High School as Class President, Prom King, Ohio Boys' State and Basketball Team Captain. He played basketball at Miami University in Oxford, OH. He was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated from Rollins College, Winter Park FL, with a BS in Finance and Economics. He attended Embry Riddle and became a pilot. He was a commercial banker and real estate manager in Cincinnati. He was VP of Oceanography Development Corp, in West Palm Beach. He was SE Regional VP for First Mortgage Investors. He was also a Commodity Broker and had a Nationwide Insurance Agency. He went on to be a VP of Finance for Cardinal Industries and Florida Capital Security Corporation. He was co-chair of the University of Florida Foundations Parents Advisory Council. He was a member of the University Club, the Board of Governors for the Orlando Mortgage Bankers Association, Secretary of the Seminole County School Advisory Council, President of the Miami University Alumni Chapter and President of The Springs Homeowners Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park.

He coached his children's sports teams in basketball, football and baseball. He was a loving husband and father. With his big personality, he never met a stranger and quickly created a common bond. He lived in Florida 56 years and loved and appreciated Cincinnati, Kentucky and their Midwestern values. He loved Rollins College, Ohio State, Miami University (Ohio) and the Florida Gators.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Oscar Owen Frakes. Alera Norton Frakes Cart and step-father Donald William Cart. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Cynthia Brooke Ault Frakes- Longwood. He is survived by his children Owen Kyle Frakes (Cathy Wojtas) - Orlando, Monica Brooke Frakes Culpepper (Brad) - Tampa and Erika Caroline Frakes McCandless (Mike) - Tampa. He is survived by his grandchildren Rex Owen Culpepper- Tampa, Judge Broward Culpepper- Tampa, Honor Brooke Culpepper- Tampa/NYC, JC Wojtas (Hannah) –Georgia, Layton Wojtas- Orlando and great granddaughter Eleanor Rose Wojtas- Georgia.
