Obituary

Nicholas Shaheen, age 96, passed away peacefully, May 22, 2021.

Beloved husband of the late Louise (Hindy) Shaheen. Devoted father to Linda, Thomas (the late Barbara), and John (Kathleen). Loving grandfather of Nicholas, Natalie Rankin (Joshua), Michael, and Bethany Thiele (Evan). Proud great-grandfather of Savannah Louise and Thomas Nicholas.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bashara and Maheeba Shaheen, and his siblings; Adele Hamway, Joseph Shaheen, Josephine Samaha, Nussery Shaheen, Julia Trabulsy, and Sally "Madeline" Kirkup. He is survived by his brother, Victor Shaheen, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Nicholas was born June 24, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to Lebanese immigrants, Bashara and Maheeba Shaheen. He was raised and educated in Detroit and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1946. He entered the military February 1943, was stationed in Europe, and bravely fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his discharge from the army, he met and married Louise Hindy. They started their family, and moved to Redford Township, Michigan in 1951.

He began his career in the Wayne County Clerk's office in 1949 as a temporary clerk for the Board of Auditors. In 1958, he was appointed to the Wayne County Circuit Court Assignment Clerk's Office by Michigan Governor G. Mennen Williams. In May of 1969, he was appointed chief assignment clerk by Michigan Governor William G. Milliken. He remained in this position until he retired in 1989. In 1994, he moved to Orlando, Florida, where he spent his final years.

He was a devoted Detroit sports fan and long-time follower of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Red Wings. He was an avid golfer and continued to play until age 92. He loved dancing to big band music. In his later years, he enjoyed reading and following politics.

A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2021, 11:00am, at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, Michigan 48334. Visitation will be held before Mass at 10:30am.

Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 W. 10 Mile Rd., Southfield, Michigan 48033.
