Obituary

Myra Lee Hicks Eisencoff Platel, age 91, passed away peacefully at Advent Health Hospice in Orlando on Sunday, September 24, 2023. She was born in Crosby, AL on February 28, 1932, and the family moved to Dade City, FL in 1933.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Eisencoff (in 1973); parents James J. and Mary Exa (Story) Hicks; brothers James C. Hicks, Willis Hicks, Dorman Hicks; and sisters Mary Jim Herring and Joan Filar. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Myra graduated from Florida State University in 1954 with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. On August 9, 1958, she married Robert Eisencoff and moved to Sanford. She taught in Dade City for 4 years and at Pine Crest Elementary in Sanford for 23 years and was an advocate for teachers, including being a lobbyist in Tallahassee for education issues. Myra was active in Seminole County politics for many years, which led to her being named a delegate for the 1980 Democratic National Convention in New York City and a visit to the White House to meet Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter.
Upon her retirement, Myra enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading, attending live theater and music performances, and staying informed on current events. She was active in the Sanford Historical Society and the Seminole County Audubon Society for many years. She continued her love of learning by taking classes for seniors at Seminole Community College and enjoying trips with various groups to art museums and botanical gardens. Myra was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Sanford.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, at First Methodist Church of Sanford (419 S. Park Ave), with visitation at 1pm and a memorial service at 2pm. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Sanford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sanford Historical Society or First United Methodist Church of Sanford.
