Obituary

Michael (Mike) A Flurkey, 59, passed away May 31 in Orlando, Florida surrounded by his daughter and sisters. Michael was born in Hinsdale, Illinois.
Mike was a graduate of JD Darnell Senior High School in Geneseo, Illinois and quickly moved to Orlando after graduation to pursue his dream of a career in construction and warm weather away from the cold Midwest where he was born and raised.
Mike was a state licensed building and roofing contractor in Florida for over 40 years and contributed greatly to the residential construction and development of many areas in the city of Orlando and the surrounding communities. Construction was all Mike ever wanted to do. He started by swinging a hammer with a crew of his own and later was a superintendent of large scale developments for some of the largest home builders in the country and later developed residential renovation projects in his own successful business.
Mike married Elizabeth Soto in January 1996 and they were married over 20 years. Together they found great joy in raising their daughter Caroline.
Mike was an enthusiastic season ticket holder for the Orlando Magic from the first days and loved golfing and scuba diving with family and friends. He also enjoyed the beach and had dreamed to retire along Florida's Gulf Coast where he could relax and feel the waves on his feet.
Michael A Flurkey is survived by his loving daughter, Caroline Elizabeth Flurkey, Sisters Ann Belanger and Christine (Russell) Morrison and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Lois and William Flurkey and his wife, Elizabeth Soto Flurkey.
DeGusipe Funeral Home and Crematory, Ocoee, Florida, is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 20, at 2pm. (1400 Matthew Paris Blvd, Ocoee, FL 34761)
The family invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall online created in his loving memory.
