Maurice Joseph Cotey of Altamonte Springs, and one the gentlest souls any of us have ever known, passed away at the age of 46 on July 14, 2017. Mo was a wonderful husband and loving father, a devoted son, a caring brother and a loving uncle. He worked diligently and doggedly for his family, to make sure they had all that they needed. He spent his free time helping his parents and siblings, always quick to assist with a quick home repair or a word of advice. He felt for the meek and the disenfranchised, and always defended those who needed defending, even when it was something so simple as scooping up a nephew who did not want to return to his youth soccer game and holding him tight as they both ran away from the coach. He was a dreamer, and despite a life often filled with obstacles, he never for a minute stopped chasing his hopes for the future. What many of us will remember most, though, is how Mo loved all animals, going out of his way countless times to help them to safety and to nurture them. When they suffered, he suffered. When they were joyous, he was happy. It is said that compassion for animals is intimately associated with goodness of character. Mo was good. So good.

He left a void in our lives that cannot be replaced. We are not sure what we will do without him.
Mo is survived by his wife Linda, sons Salvatore and Maurice Alexander, his parents Thomas and Patricia, his dogs Crash and Trouble, his brothers Mark Hamm and John Cotey, his sisters Michelle Cotey, Amber Schlotman and Carrie Smith and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Michael Cotey. Service will be held on July 20, 2017 at DeGusipe Funeral Home at 9001 N Orlando Avenue Maitland, Florida
