Mason Wharton, 88, of Sanford, FL, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2014. Mason was born July 15, 1926, in Bushnell, FL, the youngest of three children born to the late William Watts Wharton and Mary Adele Hill Wharton. At age two he moved to Orlando where he lived most of his youth. Mason graduated from Orlando High School in 1944 and from Stetson University in 1951. From 1944-1946 he served in the US Navy.
In 1947 he met and married the love of his life, Sylvia. Mason was employed by Eastern Airlines as the Sales Cargo Manager in Orlando and Miami, where he retired in 1986 and relocated to Lake Mary. He was very active in both professional and community organizations. He was on the Board of Governors for the National Defense Transportation Assoc. and the Central Florida Traffic Club, Chairman of the McCoy Cargo Committee, Vice President of Miami Cargo Committee, and President of the Miami Air Cargo Committee. He was a member and past president of the Sanford Seminole Jaycees, Chairman of the Boy Scout troop 501, 7 years a member of the Sanford Zoning Board, Chairman of the Seminole County School Board and President and founding member of the PHP.
Mason was best known for his love of his wife and family, his warm sense of humor and his passion for bass fishing. He is predeceased by wife, Sylvia, his brother, William Watts Wharton and his sister, Mary Adele Smythe. Mason is survived by his four children, Mason Wharton, Jr., Candone Wharton, Lillian Wharton Taylor and Camille Wharton Lupton, eight grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Park Ave. Sanford, Florida, At 11am on Nov. 29th, 2014.
